Full Time Student

M.Eng. in Mechanical

I am a third-year Ph.D. Student in the Department of Mechanical Engineering working in the Smart and Small Thermal Systems (S2TS) Laboratory at the University of Maryland. I work with Maryland State to address their Energy and Carbon reduction goals. My areas of specialization are Energy Audits, Energy Efficiency, Decarbonization, and Machine Learning.

I pursued my undergraduate thesis at the Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay on the Applications of Fluid-Structure Interactions in Energy Harvesting. The field of energy has always intrigued me and being able to do hands-on work to realize the impacts of our research is something that has brought me plenty of joy.

I like hiking, swimming, and listening to my favorite artists on vinyl in my free time. I am an avid sports fan, tennis and football being my favorite sports.

Why Maryland?

I chose Maryland not for one but several compelling reasons. As a prospective student, the Center for Environmental Energy Engineering (CEEE) was an extremely attractive prospect to work at and learn more about innovations and advancements in the fields of HVAC and Energy Efficiency. Upon reading further, I found coursework part of the curriculum taught by faculty from CEEE at UMD that included some of the foremost experts in their respective fields, offering unparalleled opportunities for collaboration which made UMD the perfect fit.

The Mechanical Engineering graduate program’s focus on real-world and practical applications of engineering principles further supported my career goals. The opportunity to collaborate and learn from subject matter experts and other graduate students from eclectic backgrounds made the opportunity even more tempting and exciting. Opportunities to interact with peers from various backgrounds and disciplines will broaden my perspective and enrich my learning experience.

Lastly, the proximity to Washington DC, offering a variety of activities such as concerts, museums, and food, made UMD a no-brainer! I have nothing but love for UMD and couldn't be happier with my decision! I highly recommend the Graduate Engineering Program at UMD.
