MAGE Students Meet with Kevin M. Hildebrand for a tour of the McLean Data Center in Virginia on February 24, 2025

On February 24, 2025, a group of 12 students from Maryland Applied Graduate Engineering (MAGE), primarily pursuing a Master of Engineering in Cybersecurity alongside a Graduate Certificate in Engineering in Cloud Engineering, took their education beyond the classroom with a tour of the McLean Data Center in Virginia. Hosted by Kevin M. Hildebrand, the visit provided students with a hands-on look at cutting-edge data infrastructure, bridging academic theory with industry-leading practices. Experiences like these exemplify how MAGE prepares students to meet the evolving demands of the cybersecurity and cloud engineering fields.

A highlight of the tour was an in-depth introduction to the Zaratan High-Performance Computing (HPC) cluster, where students explored how large-scale data processing and complex computations power today’s most advanced technologies. This immersive experience deepened their understanding of real-world applications in cybersecurity and cloud environments—knowledge that directly complements their rigorous MAGE coursework. By connecting students with leading industry professionals and state-of-the-art facilities, MAGE continues to empower future engineers with the skills and insights needed to excel in today’s tech-driven world.
