Program Management Specialist
M.Eng Student in Energy Systems Engineering
I work at the University of Maryland full-time while I'm taking classes. I'm the Program Management Specialist for the Undergraduate Student Services Office for the College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences (CMNS). It's a desk job but it enables me to go to school here and I like getting to know the undergraduate students who work in my office. My undergraduate degree was in Physics with a concentration in Environmental Studies at Furman University in Greenville, SC. I played on the varsity basketball team so I basically lived in the gym or in the lab. I went on to teach high school physics at the Taft School, a boarding school in Watertown, CT. After two years there I moved down to Maryland to teach at Holton-Arms, an all-girls school in Bethesda, Maryland. While I was teaching I was also coaching volleyball and basketball so I always had lots of work to do! I started the Energy Systems Engineering program because I want to make a difference and I'm excited to be surrounded by like-minded students who are studying to improve system efficiency. I strive to not only have a deeper knowledge of environmental issues, but also be able to explain it in layman's terms to others so they can make informed decisions that will have positive environmental impacts. I'm excited to apply what I've learned over my graduate school experience to a career in the engineering field!
Why Maryland?
I started working in CMNS in August 2015 and then started the Masters in Engineering program the following spring. I was fortunate to get a job on campus that made it convenient for me to be a student again in such a highly recognized engineering program. I've found the faculty to be very flexible and willing to work with me despite my busy full-time work schedule.
