Research Assistant at Mechanical Engineering Dept.
M.Eng Student in Robotics

I studied Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Manchester. I spent some of the best years of my life in the UK, I made many good friends, learned from some of the best professors, and managed to graduate with knowing what I expect from the next chapter of my life. I was ready for a new challenge and country.  I moved to Maryland and spent 2 great years here. My job on campus, as a research assistant helped me apply my theoretical knowledge into practice and hone my engineering and people skills, which I am grateful for.

Why Maryland?

The professors here are some of the best in the industry and they really care about their subject and what they teach. Their enthusiasm is pretty contagious, to say the least. Also, from what I have seen, one plus point of the Robotics department is the freedom in course choices that we get. We have access to courses from almost all relevant departments including mechanical, computer science, aerospace, etc. To be very frank, core Robotics jobs are a bit hard to come by especially as an international student. That is primarily due to the fact that most companies require US citizenship for security clearance reasons. Hence it is worth obtaining a Robotics degree with a sense of intellectual understanding of several different areas of study. As for the fees, this being a state college, the per semester fee is far less when compared to some of the other Robotics programs being offered. Also, the core courses being offered here are pretty much comparable to other colleges offering Robotics courses. All in all, this program is definitely worth it.
