Dr. Ravishankar earned his PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana after graduating from Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay, India. He is a Senior Vice President of Engineering at Hughes Network Systems, Germantown, Maryland where he leads system engineering activities in Mobile Satellite Department. Prior to joining Hughes, he was with Comsat Labs, Clarksburg, Maryland. He served as Editor of Speech Processing for IEEE Transactions on Communications and as Guest Editor for IEEE Network Magazine on Intergation of Satellites and 5G Systems. He has chaired a number of technical sessions in IEEE conferences. He has also served as member of Ph.D. committee at George Washington University. As visiting faculty at University of Maryland, College Park, he teaches Probability Theory and Stochastic Processes, Data Networks and Wireless Networks. He has authored more than 25 technical papers in IEEE and has contributed to John Wiley Encyclopedia of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. He is a senior member of IEEE.
