Position Requirements:

  • Must be a current M.Eng., M.S., or Ph.D. UMD student
  • Must be in good academic standing (i.e. have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher)
  • Must NOT have any failing grades (i.e. D+, D, D-, F, XF) or ungraded work due to judicial review (NG, J) on your graduate study transcript
  • Must NOT be enrolled in the course you are applying to support in that semester
  • Must NOT need to take the course you are applying to support in the future towards your own degree requirements
  • Must be able to work up to 20 hours per week (i.e. can not hold another position unless the total hours equate to less than 20)
  • Additional Semester-Specific Requirement: See Below

About the Position:

Duties Include:

  • Grade Homework
  • Grade Exam(s)
  • Grade Projects
  • Upload Course Documents to Canvas
  • Manage the Course Canvas page
  • Address Student Questions Specific to Items Graded

Graders can not be asked to:

  • Do any teaching
  • Hold office hours

Grader Salary:

  • $18 per hour
  • Up to 20 Hours Per Week, As Agreed Upon by the Instructor and As Needed. Please note that it is not guaranteed that you will work 20 hours per week every week, as it depends on the flow and timeline of the course.

Fall 2024 Specific Date Requirements

Please note these important dates and policies ahead of time for Fall position eligibility (in addition to the general requirements listed above).

For Fall 2024 positions, you MUST:

  • Arrive in College Park, Maryland by Sunday, August 25th, 2024.
    • All Graders must be able to provide an I-94/visa with a stamp that verifies an arrival in the USA by 8/25/24 or prior in order to continue with the position.
      • Graders may request a late arrival exception through Monday, September 9, 2024 at the latest. However, this must be supported by the course instructor and approved in advance by MAGE from both the employment side and the academic side at the point of a position acceptance.
  • Attend a mandatory in-person Grader Training on Friday, September 13, 2024.
  • Not hold any other University employment positions from 8/26/24 through 12/28/24. 
  • Not have any travel between 8/26/24 through 12/28/24 unless it has been reviewed and approved by MAGE.
