I chose Maryland because of their esteemed reputation in the field of engineering
John Dusing
Navy Modernization Contract Analyst, Herren Associates
M.Eng in Energy Systems Engineering
I graduated from Muhlenberg College in spring of 2017 after which I worked for a Solar O&M firm, Miller Bros Solar, as a control room operator monitoring and conducting performance/failure analysis on over 800 MW of distributed/utility scale solar facilities. Before joining Herren Associates, I took a year off working for Carousel Connections, a non-profit organization that focuses on helping young adults with mental disabilities gain real life skills working towards furthering their independence. While at Carousel, I enrolled in online courses at the University of North Dakota in preparation for my graduate studies at UMD. I have currently been at Herren for the last year and a half as a govt. contractor working with the Navy Surface Ship Modernization program office, PMS 407.
Why Maryland?
I chose Maryland because of their esteemed reputation in the field of engineering as well as their newer Energy Systems Engineering program. I believe that energy systems engineering is a rapidly growing field that will be heavily relied on to help combat future issues such as energy security and global warming. I am currently in my 3rd semester of the program and could not be happier with my decision to study here at UMD. Even through the difficulties of the past year and being forced to start my studies in a remote environment, all of my professors have been really great and I am excited to continue towards my Masters in Energy Systems Engineering.
