STMicroelectronics - University of Maryland Campus Meeting

STMicroelectronics is a French-Italian multinational technology company. Formed in 1987, it is the largest European semiconductor company, delivering microchips that are embedded in a wide range of advanced innovations, from electric cars and key fobs to giant factory machines and data centers, as well as everyday items like washing machines, hard disks, and smartphones. It is keen on research partnerships with universities, consortiums, and laboratories with skills, people, and tools to assess and improve the functionality and reliability of its products.

STMicroelectronics visited the University of Maryland Engineering Campus on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at the Kim Engineering Building. The meeting was aimed to foster collaboration between STMicroelectronics and UMD's A. James Clark School of Engineering. Key attendees included Giuseppe Izzo from STMicroelectronics, Chun Ting Lin from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office, and several administrators, faculty members, and scientists from the Clark School.

The program featured an overview of the Clark School by Dean Samuel Graham, Jr., discussions on industry engagement opportunities, and presentations on Gallium Nitride (GaN) research, two-dimensional quantum materials, and the capabilities of the Center for Advanced Life Cycle Engineering (CALCE), which Dr. Michael Osterman discussed. The event concluded with a tour of key engineering spaces, including the FabLab, IDEA Factory, and Corporate Partner Recognition Wall. This meeting served as a platform for exchanging ideas and exploring potential collaborations in engineering and technology.
